Daily Diary
April 2011

Fri 01: April Fool's Day. A tradition that goes back a long time in western societies. Not that I noticed anything today. A long and tiring day - I am hoping for 3 days R & R again - I need to get a lot of paperwork sorted and Tracey promised to help me from Sunday afternoon - and then accompany me to the Doctor on Monday morning.

Sat 02: The days are getting shorter - the nights are getting longer - but the daytime temperatures are still too high. A day of leisure - combined with getting my laundry (washing) done and a bit of housework. Amy and Ada dropped by and it was nice to watch Troy interact with them - a happy family (for a while). Witt went to work and I went out for a couple of hours in the evening. Tracey was a bit shaken when she met an intruder in her driveway at home when she returned from the shops late tonight.

Sun 03: Daylight saving is over for another 6 months (until October). Pleasantly cool overnight - so I did snuggle under the covers and enjoyed the experience. High fuel prices are causing a spike in the number of fuel drive-offs from service stations in Australia. There are also a number of people reporting their fuel tanks are being siphoned by fuel thieves. The extended warm weather is sending large crowds to the beaches. People are becoming complacent at night - leaving doors and windows unlocked - so Perth is also seeing a spike in house-breakings. I strongly advise all readers to protect themselves.

Mon 04: Managed to spend a bit of time with my first-born (Tracey) last night. She also stayed over and gave me a hand today as I attended doctor's appointments, a pathology test centre, chemist (pharmacy) and a quick trip to Woolworths. Bad news from the doctor - I have high blood pressure (170/101) and an irregular heartbeat. Troy arrived home and we went to the newsagent and post office briefly. I bought a few manilla folders and Tracey excelled (as usual) filing my pile of paperwork.

Tue 05: A sleep in this morning - lovely. Headed out of the house with Tracey (Witt was asleep, Barry was at work, Troy spent the day with his daughter (Ada) as she was having allergy tests at Joondalup Health Campus). We visited my mother and Ian then went to Centro Warwick (K-Mart) and then Mirrabooka (Anglicare). Recycled clothing was our target. Tracey bought a couple of long dresses, I bought a suit. The only downside of today was the arrival of our latest electricity bill from Synergy.

Wed 06: A long and tiring day. Started around 3am - finished around 5pm - light dinner and in bed by 6pm - just after Witt came home from work. I have made an appointment for an EEG and treadmill stress test and a meeting with my new Cardiologist, Dr Sinclair - on 04 May at 11.30am at the Mount Medical Centre in Perth.

Thu 07: Another early start - I hope that means an early finish. One out of 2 - at least I was right about the early start. That means going to bed before sunset. Lots more news - nothing earth-shattering (oops - I forgot about this afternoon's earthquake 290km east of Perth - magnitude 2). Kind of pales into significance compared to Christchurch (NZ) and Japan's problems. Perth received 7mm of rain - the 64 day drought has broken - and today's 26ºC maximum temperature was (I think) the first day with a maximum below 30ºC since November last year.

Fri 08: Another long day. There's lots of things I want to do - but I don't have the time or the energy to do them. This morning was a cool 9ºC in Perth - gloriously cool. Wonderful! Early night tonight - asleep before sunset (again). Very tired.

Sat 09: Hmmm ... I did have plans for today - but they were changed at short notice. Why - because I am a nice guy. Still - it was a pleasant day - maximum temperature of around 25ºC.

Sun 10: A Special Day today - something special happened 12 months ago. I hoped to have a small, private celebration tonight - but it was not to be. Disappointed? Yes. It was a productive day - up at 2am and again at 5.30am. Handed the 'reins' to Babbu around 10am. Paid some bills and went shopping with Troy. I had a couple of emails from Alison, the owner of Murwillumbah Motor Inn, asking if I could update their website with new photos. I spent this afternoon using my old Acer laptop, rebuilding her site. Had a nap around 4pm - woke around 7pm. Witt arrived home around 8pm. Some drizzle around 9.30pm. Thunderstorms and rain forecast.

Mon 11: I had reports of heavy rain last night north of Perth. Locally - just a few drops of rain. I still needed to leave our reticulation timer alone - and the sprinklers did their job - finishing as I came home tonight. earlier today I tried to get motivated - I did get to the Post Office and the supermarket. Other than that - nothing special. Vassana and Richard (Witt's mother and step-father) arrived back in Perth this evening from their holiday in Thailand. Witt has a headache and doesn't want to catch up with them tonight - I hope he is in a better mood tomorrow. I have chest pains and I am going to hospital now (at 11.06pm).

Tue 12: Spent an hour at Joondalup Hospital last night having tests - sent home with the message to try to relax more. Hmmm ... Broken sleep - up at 7am. Phone call from Vassana asking about Witt. Gave her Witt's new mobile number. Was hoping Witt, Tracey and I could have visited Vassana in Perth City - but it was not to be. Witt had a headache, Tracey was busy (getting ready to babysit) and I needed to try and get more nap time. Hopefully I get a better sleep tonight. Weather is still windy and warm - Perth's maximum is tipped to reach 31ºC on Friday this week. Go away, summer!

Wed 13: I tried to sleep in this morning - but it was not to be. Damn you sun! Even with block-out curtains, you invade my bedroom. Now I know why people sleep with their head under the covers. A fairly productive day - swings and round-a-bouts - I think I am a few centimetres in front of where I finished yesterday. I picked up Tracey this evening.

Thu 14: A productive day. the dishes are up to date. The wsbhing (laundry) is up to date. Most of my paperwork is up to date. All in all - a fairly intense day - but by 7pm - Tracey and I were both exhausted. Tracey produced a quick 'scratch' meal that was both tasty and healthy. Thanks, Princess.

Fri 15: A 'me' day today. A meeting at 8.50am, a trip to Number 5 to see Mum and Ian, lunch at the Warwick food court, bought a few items from Coles then splashed out on a 20 minute neck and shoulder at The Chinese Masseur. It looks like summer is hanging around - BOM tips 31ºC for Perth today!

Sat 16: Amazing what a bit of R & R can do. My blood pressure has dropped from 171/120 (earlier this week) to 120/70. I even feel better - I have been reading up on how to mentally de-stress. Mum gave me a healthy cooking / eating book - I will plan my shopping around it. A long day today - helped by Tracey - who starts work tonight. Best wishes, Tracey.

Sun 17: Planned to get up early to drive Witt to work. But - he was one step ahead of me - having already left to catch the bus and train to work. Tracey is a big help - it was nice spending father / daughter quality time together - relaxing watching DVDs and unwinding.

Mon 18: Early hours of this morning - chest pains. Severe. Tracey drove me to hospital. Spending tonight there. Should be released tomorrow afternoon. [For the second time in 10 years - this update done by Tracey].

Tue 19: Released from hospital at dinner time this evening. Not really able to talk as my throat is sore from being on oxygen all day. Apart from that I am fine. Tracey had car troubles after dropping me home. Troy went out - but the problem was beyond him - hello friendly tow-truck driver.

Wed 20: A relaxing night. I drove Witt to work this morning - then had a choice of refuelling my car at BP Scarborough (ULP is 151.9cpl) or Shell Scarborough (ULP is 139.9cpl). Guess which one I chose! Arrived home - going to have a quiet day - and do some light gardening - and couldn't find my mobile phone. It was not in the console where I left it. Was it stolen while I was paying for fuel? Panic attack! Called my phone from my spare (emergency) phone - and I could hear it ringing ... it had fallen out of the console and was upside down on the passenger side carpet (black phone back on black carpet). Talk about a change of Kimbies moment! I did some light gardening - dead-headed a couple of rose bushes, did some of the lawn edges, a bit of pruning, checked the reticulation - and generally rested. In the afternoon, I assisted Cannapi download Site Designer (the program I use to create this website). I had to download a second copy for myself and talk him through it - in the process I almost lost my web template. Two shocks in one day. Felt a bit morbid - so I visited this page.

Thu 21: Up early this morning - not a good thing as I had a late night last night. No 'nanna nap' today - so I was very tired when I visited Mum and Ian at number 5. Freeway traffic was light this morning (a lot of people left early for the Easter long weekend / school holiday break. A different story this afternoon with multiple vehicle accidents causing chaos on major roads as motorists headed out of the city to the north and south.

Fri 22: Good Friday. A maximum temperature in Perth of 33ºC today. Possible morning drizzle tomorrow and 28ºC. Alternating morning showers and drizzle possible for the next week. Hooray - rain is coming. Hooray - sub-30ºC temperatures. A steady day today - assisted by Glenn. Thanks, mate. Going to have an early night tonight - taking Witt to work tomorrow morning - for a 9am stat. In a piece of Easter irony, Australia is in the grip of a rabbit plague - the worst since 1995, when the calicvirus was released. Add to this - strict gun control, fox baiting and dogs having to be on leads when they are walked - the rabbits are doing what rabbits do best - breeding like ... rabbits. Hello - Easter bunnies.

Sat 23: A slow day today. I drove Witt to work and had a steady day myself. Came home for a short break around 7pm. Finally finished what I set out to do around 11.45pm.

Sun 24: Easter Sunday. Tracey is driving Witt to work today - due to Perth's abysmal public transport on Sundays and public holidays.

Mon 25: Easter Monday & ANZAC Day (public holiday). A good day today - off to Garden Island (just off the coast of WA, near the town of Rockingham). Garden Island is joined to the mainland by a causeway. Then off to Fremantle to watch the ANZAC Day march. As luck would have it - I caught up with Mick Brennan and Steve Forty from Carringtons - a Traffic management Company I used to work for in Perth and out at Balladonia on the Eyre Highway a few years ago. Neither man had changed a bit - it was good to remember the old times and be brought up to date with current events. back home and Witt and I went shopping at Farmer Jacks Girrawheen and Asian Fresh Beechboro - before I did some laundry. Looks like an early night for me as I am very tired. I have two Doctor's appointments in the next week - I will see my GP on Friday and my new Cardiologist Wednesday week.

Tue 26: Additional public holiday (most regions). I turned my phone off and did not set my alarm clock for today. I woke when the sun rose - but I wanted to wake naturally today. A fairly relaxing day - I turned on my phone around 10am and received 2 messages. I have an early start tomorrow - so an early night tonight. Fine weather in Perth - slightly cooler.

Wed 27: Perth's 5 day break is over. School holidays continue for another week. Rain. heavy rain. Very heavy rain. The drought in Perth was finally broken early this morning when nearly 10mm of rain fell. It was glorious. It's only the second (or third) day in Perth this year that rain has fallen. Mind you - there were lengthy fine periods when the sun shone brightly.

Thu 28: Another long day for me - up early; home around 5pm. Troy and I went to Woolworths shortly afterwards and we bought some food and also some AA batteries for my blood pressure machine. Troy's BP was 157/77. After a few minutes rest, it dropped to 130/70. Mine is 154/115. Today is a special day for me as the Internet Cafe I have been planning in Cotabato (on the island of Mindanao, in the Philippines) opened.

Fri 29: Another long day. Okay - according to my clock - it's another 24 hour day - it just seemed longer! Woken up at 6am by Troy's mobile phone's Alarm Clock. Troy is having an extended Easter break from work - but has forgotten to disable his alarm. Drove Witt to work at 7.10am - then back home to have breakfast (cereal and toast). troy got motivated and together we cleaned out the food cupboard - discarding some items which had a Use By Date as far back as July 2007! I then vaccuumed the house and brought in the laundry off the clothes line. Winter is coming - so I decided after experiencing Perth's morning minimum temperature of 8ºC, it was time to put my electric blanket back on my bed. Tracey was due to join me at lunchtime to tidy up my paperwork - but won't be here until at least 4pm. Tonight I had an appointment with my GP. My blood pressure climbed to 167/145 so I phoned Swan Districts Hospital. They transferred me to Health Direct - who called an ambulance. They stabilised me and took me to RPH.

Sat 30: Arrived at Royal Perth Hospital by 8pm. Still having chest pains. Given 2 GTN tablets to disolve under my tongue and 2 shots of morphine. Pain lessened.Transferred to the Mount Hospital around 2am today. Temperature, blood pressure and pulse rate taken every 2 hours. My BP is now 95/45.
