Daily Diary
June 2011

Wed 01: First official day of Winter. I got to sleep in and the rain tumbled down - often quite heavily. I had an appointment with my Cardiologist and I have to return next Tuesday, 07 June at 11am for coronary angiography. Tracey will drive me to and from the appointment. I caught up with Ron this afternoon at east Perth train station - he was returning from Geraldton - where he had been for a few days, catching up with his son. The WA (State) government started a total Winter sprinker ban (scheme water and bores) effective today for the next 3 months.

Thu 02: Some 30.2mm of rain fell overnight on Perth - very welcome - although it damaged small sections of some major roads in the metropolitan area - but that's a small price to pay for the deluge. I notice it's getting dark earlier - sunset is now around 5.30am and it's still dark at 6am. A pile of bills greeted me when I checked the mail today - some I don't have to worry about. None are overdue.

Fri 03: A bit cloudy to start with - then a glorious, sunny day in Perth. It's like Autumn or Spring - certainly NOT like Winter, here on the west coast of Australia. I had a swings & round-a-bouts day today. I was getting ready at 8.30am, when I phoned to check my programme for the day - only to have it thrown into chaos. Fortunately, I managed to rearrange my schedule and the day proceeded at a pace I could cope with.

Sat 04: The nights are getting colder (4ºC) but the days are still great - fine enough to get my washing (laundry) dry on the clothes line in the fresh air outside. I also repaired the vaccuum cleaner (with a bit of help from my son, Troy and cleaned the floors - before collapsing on my bed. A nap - then I brought in the washing and made my bed. Barry cooked a roast chicken dinner. Tracey and Nat dropped over. They are getting serious about each other again. They were married in November 2000 and look like remarrying later this year.

Sun 05: I feel so decadent - sleeping in until 8.30am (okay - with one 'nature call' at 2am). Witt had left for work, Barry was up having breakfast, Troy was tucked up in bed and Tracey surfaced soon afterwards. A cold night (around 4ºC) but a glorious sunny day. Barry and Tracey bought an octagonal dining room table (and 4 high-back padded chairs), in Greenwood, after viewing an ad on Gumtree. Even Troy was impressed with their bargain. Tuna patties and vegies for dinner.

Mon 06: Foundation Day (WA public holiday). A fairly disappointing day today. I had made plans to spend the morning going through legal paperwork with Tracey - but she started late and finished early due to a headache. Tomorrow is accounted for - so I hope we can get things finished up soon. No rain in sight for the next week. The State Government has instituted a winter sprinkler ban. Rissoles and vegies for dinner tonight - thanks to Barry.

Tue 07: Coronary angiography at the Mount Hospital today. Up at 8.30am - Tracey drove me in at 9.30am. Started reading today's paper in Reception at 10.30am. Admitted (on time) just after 11am. Pre-med straight away and nodded off. I was due to be discharged by 3pm - but a backlog of patients resulted in me staying overnight. Tracey dropped by at 5.30pm to check on my condition and take a photo for use on the website. Hope to be discharged early tomorrow morning.

Wed 08: One week into Winter - no sprinklers are allowed for the next 3 months - but Perth is experiencing dry fine days and very cold nights. If the lack of water doesn't kill the lawns and gardens - the frost will! Came home from hospital this morning. My arteries are 40% to 50% blocked - but my Cardiologist / Surgeon, Dr Sinclair, will not operate until they reach 70% blocked. Visited my local shopping centre to get some stationery items (lever arch A4 files x 2, plastic sleeves - 100 box and some coloured dividers). Tracey gave me a hand to organise the paperwork this evening. Both A4 lever arch files are full and well organised.

Thu 09: So nice to be home. The pain-killers have worn off and my right wrist feels like a lead weight. I am realising how reliant I am on my right arm - simple things like eating, typing, reading, basic hygiene etc need to hands to be effective. Hopefully by tomorrow I will be back to normal. Tracey and Nat are having medical tests.

Fri 10: I had a bit of a sleep in today - Barry, Troy and Witt headed off to work by 6.30am. I surfaced at 9am. Tracey and Nat shortly afterwards. Tracey gave me a hand for an hour or so, while Nat made breakfast for the 3 of us. Tracey and Nat headed off for more medical tests. I did the washing (laundry). Fortunately, there wasn't much to do. It may be winter in Perth - but there's no rain in sight - good if you want to do things outdoors; but not much good for the water levels in the dams.

Sat 11: Saturday - the weekend. Well - it used to be that way. Troy spent the day with Amy. Barry made breakfast for both of us. Witt slipped out quietly and went to work. He has Perth's public transport system (buses and trains) down to a fine art. I spent a quiet day - most of it online doing research. The nights are cool - and the days are cooling down too. I am wearing one of my 2 cardigans as I update today's entry. The Weather Bureau has announced Perth will receive rain from Tuesday to Friday next week. The dams and the gardens certainly need it.

Sun 12: Two of the benefits of winter are - you don't have to water your lawns and gardens and when the ground temperature drops below 10ºC, grass does not grow. The Garden Bag Man told me that piece of trivia. I noticed that during the warmer months - the lawns needed mowing weekly. It's been 3 weeks now and Troy and Nat mowed and edged them this afternoon. A quiet day today - I hope to have a complete R & R day (a 'me' day) tomorrow to catch up with family and friends.

Mon 13: The last fine day for a while today. My washing (laundry) is up to date. Tomorrow Perth is expecting 30mm of rain before lunchtime. Good for gardens, good for the dams, probably good for tow truck drivers too. The volvanic ash cloud from Chile's volcano is causing chaos with flights to and from Melbourne (Victoria) and New Zealand. To make life worse for the kiwis, Christchurch (NZ) had more after-shocks today - some very severe. In other news, the WA government became the first state government to ban fake cannabis.

Tue 14: I had plans to visit Mum today (for breakfast). But - a late night and a lot of stress meant I took a while getting to sleep and didn't set my alarm clock - so I woke up too late. Mum was good about it - so I have deferred until tomorrow. A fair bit of rain overnight - nothing very heavy - just steady, soaking rain. Tracey and Nat headed off to Norseman (Tracey will be back this coming Sunday). The Chilean volcano is still causing travel chaos - Perth Airport is the next one likely to be closed, if news reports tonight are correct. With 2 weeks left of this month - the ATO is warning people to be extra careful when they file their income tax returns. Here's some tips to reduce your tax (legally).

Wed 15: Drove Witt to work to save him getting soaked, then drove to Midland to see my lawyer. Spent an hour with my lawyer, then drove to Warwick to have lunch with Mum and Ian. Home-made pumpkin soup and toast. More home-made cakes and a drink of tea to wash it all down. A tour of Mum's garden was probably one of the highlights of my day. Red kangaroo paws (a native flower) and a blaze of colour in the front and back of the house. Truly a garden to be proud of. Visited Centro Warwick shopping centre and checked my Lotto ticket (no win, again), then home to organise more paperwork for Friday. Barry organised dinner after we made a quick trip to Woolworths.

Thu 16: A long and tiring day - but at least I feel like I achieved something today. Woke just before the alarm sounded at 7am - did some legal reference work (Chronology Report), drove Witt to work, then headed back home. Got some assistance on the way. Back home to continue to update the Report - found Troy home. I'm not surprised - he was coughing most of last night. Home around 7pm and continued my Report.

Fri 17: Drove Witt to work, then via Marangaroo to my GP's medical centre then onto Girrawheen and then to Midland for a 10am lawyer's appointment. Just missed him by a few seconds - but I spent the next hour working on my paperwork (which now weighs in excess of 2kg) until we spent 90 minutes planning our strategy for next week. Then I came home - organised lunch for Troy - who spent his second day at home sick. Chicken and salad for lunch. Then - I worked solid until 7.30pm working on my 'rebuttal.' Troy organised dinner (pizza). It looks like tomorrow will be a quiet day. It would be nice to have a quiet weekend.

Sat 18: A good night's sleep last night - in fact I have been sleeping better than I can remember for years lately. i am not sure why - with all the stress in my life - but I dream a lot and wake refreshed. A lot of drizzle today - Troy and I caught up on the laundry (washing) at last - but we did need to use the clothes dryer a lot. I must remember to ask Troy to string up a clothes line under the back patio. I am using this weekend to catch up on the paperwork I will need for next week - so if you can't get through by phone - don't panic - I am NOT ignoring anybody - I am just too busy (and I have resorted on putting my phone on 'silent' mode). Sorry - all will be revealed NEXT weekend.

Sun 19: Mostly fine weather today. Troy went to watch one of his brothers play football, Barry cooked a nice beef roast and vegetables and Witt went to work. Tracey and Nat arrived back in Perth from their quick trip to Norseman. Tracey had a shower and a nap them helped me finalise the legal paperwork I will need next week. This is my final entry for the next 4 days. For legal reasons this includes my regular Diary and the private Members Only area. peter991.com ™ is locked down until then.

Mon 20: Day 1 - spent at Court 6.2 in the Perth District Court, 500 Hay Street, Perth CBD. Checked in to Detention in the basement. Handed in everything - but allowed to keep my glasses, belt, shoes and socks. Goodbye watch, wallet (cards & cash). Jury selection - 7 men and 5 women. Prosecutor gave his opening address. First witness - declared a protected witness and gave evidence by video link. He was guided through his 39 page Statement - that was Monday. The trial was stopped once by the Judge who instructed my lawyer to tell me remain expressionless.

Tue 21: Day 2 - things are always easier when you know the routine. I knew what to take and what to leave home. First witness continued his testimony. He was cross-examinted by my lawyer. His ex-wife, who we all expected to give evidence by video link from Tasmania - was called and gave evidence in Court. The jury started watching my 6 hours of interviews - recorded on 3 DVDs and edited down to 4.5 hours.

Wed 22: Day 3 - We continued where we left off. Finished viewing the DVDs by lunchtime. Both the TMGs were called as defence witnesses and conducted themselves well.

Thu 23: Day 4 - The prosecutor, my lawyer and Judge summed up. Eight of the 15 charges were dropped and the jury retired at 12.40pm. Court reconvened by 1.30pm so the Judge could answer a question by the jury. A verdict on all the charges was reached less than an hour later. I was found guilty on the 7 remaining charges. Sentencing will take place at 9.15am on Monday, 15 August 2011. That will also be the last entry to this website. I would like to thanks friends and family from all over the world - friends who read My Diary and those who keep in touch by Facebook and other social media.

Fri 24: D Day +1 - The only way to describe how I feel this morning is totally shattered. The stress I have been suffering for the last 10 months has culminated, but it is far from over. The only upside is I have 8 weeks to get my affairs in order. Last night I was overwhelmed by phone, email and Facebook messages of support. I was emotionally not able to take phone calls - so that task was delegated to my daughter, Tracey. I did make a few phone calls to close friends, family and associates - but for legal reasons I am unable to say any more than I have aready said.

Sat 25: D Day +2 - Went to bed really late last night - or should I say - at 1.30am today. I tried to tire myself out yesterday and it wasn't until after 1am today I felt tired enough to get into bed and sleep. Perth had a 'once in 10 year' storm, according to the Weather Bureau - with 56mm of rain falling yesterday. I was up at 7am - checking email and doing research. Did a bit of washing (laundry) - no wind and 18ºC - so the heavier items like the towels may take a while to dry.

Sun 26: The month of June - the first month of winter in the southern hemisphere and the last month of the 2010-2011 financial year (in Australia) is neary over. I had a 16 hour day today - to try to burn off some of the 'nervous energy' I feel. I went to bed around 6pm. Not feeling hungry.

Mon 27: Woke up around 2am. Still not hungry. Got dressed - managed to get another 'notch' on my belt (that means I am losing weight). Felt hungry around 4am - had a weak cup of coffee and a couple of slices of toast with Promite. Continued working through my Must Do List - which currently has 12 items. Tracey and I have crossed off only one item - and when we double checked - it's only partly done. My goal is to clear the list by the end of this week - so I can spend the weekend working on my EOFY Income Tax and 4th quarter BAS. Dinner with mum and Ian - a very nice meal and good company. Thanks.

Tue 28: Woke naturally around 7.10am - had breakfast and a drink - then realised (too late) that I was supposed to have a 2hr fasting glucose tolerance test. No damage done - as the test needed to be pre-booked (and it wasn't done). Tracey and Nat went camping (at City Beach) so they could see the sunset / storm / sunrise. Came bck exhausted - as Tracey didn't get any sleep and I had a big day planned for her. We made a number of appointments for this week and next week. Early night for both of us tonight. I had planned to have dinner with Ron - but that will be put off until tomorrow. One real positive - my car registration is paid and my Income tax is also done (online).

Wed 29: An early start to the day - then lunch with Ron at Mt Lawley - then off to Perth to see my Cardiologist at the Mount medical Centre. The Doctor said I am 'fine' but asked me to make an appointment to see a Gastroenterologist. That's booked for 23 August.

Thu 30: End of 2010/2011 Financial Year. Never a dull minute in my life. Witt had a late night last night (still talking on the phone to friends in Thailand at 1.30am today) - but fast asleep at 4am and had left for work just after 6am. I checked my email - had porridge for breakfast, did some research and decided to make another attempt at installing a digital certificate on my HP laptop so I could do my BAS online. Usually the paper form arrives in the last week of each quarter (March, June, September and December). It wasn't in my letterbox by Tuesday, 28 June - so I checked with the ATO - who said it had been posted on 12 June. It's rare for us to lose mail here - so I asked for another form. Yes, Sir. The ATO cancelled the form and what turned up in my letterbox yesterday ... you guessed it - the form! Frantic phone call to the ATO -- can they please cancel the cancellation? No, Sir. You have to wait about 20 days for the NEW form. The old form has a different Document ID ... So I was rather pleased with myself when I managed to do my BAS online this afternoon. Tracey and I went to Karrinyup and gave the doctor's bill I paid yesterday to Medicare - who promptly and politely gave me an 85% refund of the bill. I also had a haircut at the local barber shop. I wasn't going to pay $35 (at Karrinyup) for a haircut - when my local barber shop charges $14 to $16 for a man's haircut.
